My Approach
My approach is rooted in Anti-Oppressive, Decolonizing theories and practices.

I welcome and honour people of all sexual and gender identities, racial identities, cultures, religions, spiritualities, abilities, and world-views.

My practice leans toward longer-term approaches like psychodynamic therapy because a paced approach is especially important in supporting people who have experienced developmental and attachment traumas.

Occasionally, I do use shorter-term manualized therapies to support coping skills development. (These include CBT, DBT, Solution-Focused, and Motivational interviewing.) But if you are seeking these therapies specifically, I can recommend therapists who specialize in this area.
About Me
I’m Katherine, a Registered Psychotherapist specializing in trauma recovery.

I started seeing clients under supervision in 2016 and joined the College of Registered Psychotherapists in 2018.

My background is in healthcare, mainly focused on the physical aspects of rehabilitative care - I have worked in hospitals and clinics in Canada, Scotland, and Haiti. Working in these different careers helped me to see the gaps in healthcare and figure out where my skills were most needed.

In 2013, I started school for psychotherapy at the Ontario Psychotherapy and Counselling Program in Toronto. The program is a 5 year intensive training in psychodynamic therapy that includes 2 years of supervised clinical residency and covers a variety of approaches including: Relational therapy, Attachment theory, Developmental psychology, Intersubjective theory, as well as courses in Pharmacology and Neuroscience.

For many years I engaged in my own trauma recovery process through therapy and an ongoing art practice. My thesis combined these two modalities and was focused on working with complex, unspoken trauma using expressive arts to support the integration of experiences that couldn't be expressed in words.

After graduating in 2018, I started practicing Psychotherapy full-time while also running expressive arts therapy groups at a residential treatment center for addictions and PTSD recovery.

I occasionally offer group art expressive therapy programs and am an approved provider for the Victim Quick Response Program+(VQRP+)
